WESTERN NEW YORK REGIONAL DELEGATE REPORT
JULY 17, 1999
STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETING
To begin with, I must express my optimism with the outcome of
the Western New York Region's "Special Strategic Planning"
meeting held on June 19, 1999 at Chestnut Ridge Park. Many ideas
were presented. As an attachment, I am including these ideas.
Special thanks to Elizabeth for taking notes and disseminating
these notes to the participants. Let's spend some time determining
what we, as a region; can do with this ambitious list. Remember
that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step!
ZONAL FORUM
The Northeast Zonal Forum is being held on August 7th and 8th
at the Fallside Resort. On August 7th, we will begin at 11:00
am with a sharing session. We will meet until 7:30 pm with a dinner
break at 4:30 pm. On August 8th, we will begin with at 9:00 am
with a sharing session and run until 12:00 pm. 14 Regions from
the Northeast have been invited and this is a wonderful opportunity
for us to show that Recovery Rocks in Western New York! Thanks
to Dave N. from the Ni-O Area and Norm and Alicia from the Buffalo
Area for all your help. Also, thanks to Tom and Stacey.
Items To Be Discussed:
1. Food/Drink situation for the Zonal Forum
$$$ needed
2. Rides/Transportation issues
3. Thoughts about what direction we want the Zone to take
4. Workshops to be held today!
AREA UPDATES
Since our last regional meeting, I have attended the Alleycatts
ASC (with Tomy) and Buffalo ASC meetings. I believe that it is
imperative to keep in good contact with our member areas. Alleycatts
appeared appreciative of the visit but is unsure whether they
want to participate in the Western New York region. I have also
heard that groups in Niagara Falls have begun meeting to explore
the potential of creating a new ASC. More will be revealed
WORKSHOP STRATEGY
Freddy and I will be embarking on a new strategy starting soon-bringing
our workshops directly to our members. This makes sense. We can
more effectively carry the message when we piggyback on other
events. In this vein, we will be holding service related workshops
at the following: the Buffalo ASC picnic on August 21st; Recovery
in the Woods and WNYRCNA IV where we will workshop the WSC selected
topics.
WORLD SERVICE MEETING
The 1999 World Service meeting will be held from Friday, September
24th through Sunday, September 26th in Hollywood, Florida. The
World Board will be presenting their internal guidelines and there
will be additional project updates on many projects which were
committed to the World Board at the WSC 1999. You may remember
that these projects include the Motion 21 Literature Project;
Tradition Guidebook and more readable service material.
