WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2000 HIGHLIGHTS…
A BRIEF LOOK AT OUR WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE

· As Western New York's Regional Delegate, I attended the NA World Service Conference (WSC) in Woodland Hills, California from April 28th-May 6th. Due to the illness of Freddy R., Regional Delegate Alternate, I attended alone.

· 93 Regions were present-from all over the world-2 new regions were seated: Guatemala and Baja Son from Mexico/Baja California

· A BIG THANKS to all Home Groups who participated. In the end, I received 26 Tally Sheets from the WNY Region-9 more than last year. This is nearly 20% participation. Hopefully, we will see a day where 100% of our groups participate! A breakdown of Tally Sheets by Area: NiO-7 Tally Sheets; Chautauqua-5 Tally Sheets; Niagara Falls-5 Tally Sheets and Buffalo-9 Tally Sheets. AlleyCatts did not participate.

· I'll cut to the chase and answer the question, So what happened of any importance at the WSC?

· Motions 1-5, all pertaining to literature evaluation and development all passed. What this means is that the NA World Board has been instructed to come back to the fellowship in 2004 with a plan of action to evaluate the Basic Text and Little White Booklet. Ultimately, we voted to evaluate both of these books. There will be a lot of discussion in the coming years relating to this topic and all members are encouraged to pay close attention and participate. This is semi-controversial as many members do not want to see either book changed, while many others would like to see changes and additions, particularly to the stories.

· The fellowship has been asked to develop source material about sponsorship. This may or may not be used as an IP, a separate booklet or perhaps a chapter in the Basic Text.

· The Basic Text is now available on CD ROM…very cool, with an audio component (a group saying the Serenity Prayer, Third Step Prayer etc.). The NA website, www.na.org also has new features, including a national meeting locator and a search engine for upcoming events.

· Two new Issues Discussion Topics were selected:
How can we continue to provide services to our fellowship and at the same time decrease our reliance on funds from events?
How can we create a bridge that builds and maintains a connection to service for Home Group members?

· All regions will now be funded to attend the WSC and a new regional criteria has been established. On the record, our region strongly opposed this.
